Nathan Blecharczyk: Co-founder of Airbnb with a Net Worth of $8 Billion
Nathan Blecharczyk, the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Airbnb, has a net worth of $8 billion. He graduated from Boston Latin Academy and Harvard University with a degree in Computer Science.
In 2008, Blecharczyk joined his former roommate Joe Gebbia and his friend Brian Chesky to help build Airbnb’s website, which was then called Airbedandbreakfast.com. The business soon became known as Airbnb and by November 2015, the company had over 60 million guests use their service, and the company was valued at over $25 billion. Five years later, the company was worth $100 billion.
On December 10, 2020, Airbnb made its IPO debut, with an expected market cap of a little under $50 billion. By the morning of December 10, the company’s market cap had exploded to $100 billion, making Blecharczyk, Chesky, and Gebbia each worth $6 billion on paper.
Even after selling $100 million worth of their personal shares on the IPO day, Blecharczyk still owns around 70 million shares of Airbnb. All three founders are members of The Giving Pledge, which means they intend to donate at least half of their fortunes to charity.
