We've exclusively learned that Brie Larson will star as the lead of the upcoming crime drama Redemption, directed by the acclaimed Marielle Heller.
Sometimes the justice system isn’t very just, which is what one of Brie Larson’s upcoming fictional heroes will soon learn. Our trusted and proven sources tell us Larson has signed on as the lead of the upcoming crime drama Redemption. The Fast X star will play a woman trying to rebuild her life after serving time in prison for a crime she didn’t commit.
The names of Brie Larson‘s Redemption co-stars are still unknown, but we know Marielle Heller is directing the crime drama. As a director, Heller is best known for her Fred Rogers biopic A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.
Still a relatively young voice when it comes to her work behind the camera, Heller is a fitting choice for a Brie Larson-led crime drama considering most of her big screen work up to this point has been on woman-led features. Her directorial debut was the 2015 dramedy The Diary of a Teenage Girl, which she followed up with the 2018 biopic Can You Ever Forgive Me? More recently she directed Amazon‘s live broadcast of the stage play What the Constitution Means to Me.
Brie Larson’s crime drama Redemption actually sounds like one of Heller’s more conventional projects, at least on the surface. In contrast, Heller’s next feature will be Nightbitch, based on the 2021 Rachel Yoder novel of the same name, in which Amy Adams will star as a stay-at-home mom who fears she’s literally turning into a dog.
Brie Larson’s casting in Redemption marks another example of the actress branching out far beyond the franchise fare she’s become more well known for, such as her Marvel work and her upcoming Fast and Furious franchise debut. We’ve recently also learned that Larson will star in the Ridley Scott-directed thriller The Crusader, in the Netflix psychological thriller The Mind’s Eye, and will be reunited with her frequent co-star Samuel L. Jackson for The Forgotten.
Currently, Brie Larson is starring as the lead of the Apple TV+ miniseries Lessons in Chemistry.
Before she shows up in any of the non-franchise features we mentioned earlier, she’ll be getting her share of 2023 blockbusters. On May 19, she’ll be on the big screen in Fast X, the penultimate entry in the action film series. Then on November 10, Larson will reprise her signature superhero role in The Marvels — the Marvel movie that’s been delayed so many times we almost want to call it New Mutants.
