LOS ANGELES — The cause of death of Disney Channel actor Cameron Boyce remains unclear after an autopsy was performed Monday, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
The department announced Monday that Boyce died in his North Hollywood home on Saturday.
"In the early afternoon of July 6, Cameron Mica Boyce (DOB: 05/28/99) was found unresponsive in his home located in the 5100 block of Cartwright Avenue in North Hollywood," medical examiner-coroner spokeswoman Sarah Ardalani said in a Monday news release.
"Authorities were called and Boyce was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:35 p.m.
"An autopsy was performed today and a cause of death was deferred pending further investigation."
Boyce's family said in a statement that the actor died in his sleep because of a seizure.
"It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron," the family told ABC News in a statement. "He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated."
On Saturday, Boyce's father, Victor Boyce, expressed gratitude for the support his family received in the wake of their son's death.
"I'm overwhelmed with the love and support our family has received," he tweeted. "It really does help to ease the pain of this nightmare I can't wake up from. I can't thank you guys enough."
